The Indus Valley Civilization has writing as one of the Five Characteristics of Civilization because on seals, clay pots, and many other objects, there are many different symbols on them that represent their written language. They used these symbols as means of communication. There are about 200 basic symbols, but about 400 in total. The average number of symbols on a seal was 5.

One topic of the Indus Valley Civilizations is that they had a caste system. The Indian caste system consisted of four main varnas, or groups, these groups were the Brahmins, the Kshatriyas, the Sudras, and the Pariahs. This caste system is an example of division of labor because it divids the people into groups based on their social standing. The people who were in higher varnas had easier jobs while the people at the lower varnas had to do harder jobs, such as farming or leather working.

The Indus Valley was mainly centered around the Indus and the Ganges River. This represents the characteristic to produce surplus crops because the civilization was most populated near the rivers because it was the most fertile there. Thus, better for growing crops.

A topic from the Indus Valley Civilization is the Vedas. The Vedas were books of the great literature of the Indo-Aryans. They were composed of religious hymns and tell historians about the Vedic culture. The Vedas were written in a special form of writing called sanskrit. This represents a written language, one of the five characteristics of civilization.

The Indus valley civilization had a caste system called varnas. The four varnas are the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and Sudras. This is an example of division of labor because there are different groups of people who work different jobs. The people who were higher in their social class had easier jobs and had lighter skin than the ones that were lower in social class and had hard jobs and had darker skin because they were out in the sun longer worker harder.

The Indus Valley Civilization had the ability to produce surplus crops. In the twin cities, Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, each had a citadel, or a fortress in the center of the city. The citadel had many silo-like structures to store their crops. Growing wheat and grain crops, they needed a place to store them for the winter. These store houses enabled them to have the ability to produve surplus crops, one of the main characteristics of a civilization.

The Indus Valley Civilization had a water system in both of there twin cities, Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa. This is an example of one of the Five Characteristics of Civilization under technology. Along with the water system, they had a sewage system with a latrine for every block in the city. The Indus Valley was one of the few ancient civilizations that were that complex in there technology.

The Indus Valley Civilization had mud bricks. These would be put under Division of Labor. This is because the lower class people made the bricks. The houses were made of bricks and the higher ranking people used more bricks in their hoses.

One of the Indus Valley Civilization's achievements was creating the Great Bath, located in Morenjo Daro. The Great Bath was a very large pool-like structure that was probably built for religious and ceremonial purposes, but no one really knows for sure. The water from wells fill up the bath, and there are many steps and platforms built into it so that people can comfortably get in and out. It was rediscovered in 1925.

The Indus Valley Civilization has Technology as one of their five characteristics of civilization because of the way they built their twin cities Harappa and Mohenjo daro so that each house has a bathroom connected to a sewer system that flowed outside of the city walls.

The Indus Valley Civilization was made up many charateristics but one could be the language of this civilization. The Indus Valley people came up with their own a=way of communicating with their own written language. This system was found on their seals, clay tablets. A civilization must have a way of communication to be developed. This is one of the reasons the Indus Valley was well advanced.

The Indus Valley Civilization had many of the Five Characteristics of Civilization, one being a written language. The Inidians had Vedas which was a book of religious hymns and prayers that was written in Sanskrit. They also had the Ramayana and the Mahabharata that were also written. On top of this they also wrote on coins and seals, which were also used for means of communicating.
The Indus Valley Civilization had the Vedas which consisted of hymns and different stories. The Vedas can be a representation of the characteristic of civilizations through writing. Although it may it fall into the writing category, I believe it also falls into technology. Although it does not run off electricity and such, the book and epic poem was a big thing back then like the iPod may be now. Instead of listening to an iPod, they read the Vedas. It is a form of writing and technology which was shared throughout the Indus Valley Civilization.

The Indus Valley civilization had every single characteristic of a civilization, or else it would not be a civilization. One of the most important was bureaucratic government. There were four different Varnas, or Castes, within the Indus valley. Within these caste's were Jati. These thousands of Jati all had specific people doing specific jobs, distributing the work evenly throughout the land.
One topic of the Indus Valley Civilization is the Vedas. Written in Sanskrit it is the second most copied book ever. Second behind the Bible. It is composed of religious hymns and prayers for the people to have hope. First it was passed down by stories but then written in Sanskrit.
One topic of the Indus Valley Civiliztion was their seals. These seals were found in Mohenjo-Daro, and were made during the time of the Indus Valley Civilization. The seals were used to communicate their language and are thefore considered to be Written Language (of the 5 characteristics of Civilization).

The Indus Valley Civilization was located in between two rivers and farmed crops like cotton, sesame, peas, barley, and cotton. This is the ability to produce surplus crops. Being located in the middle of two rivers gives the civilization access to water.
