1. Part of how Sparta got a lot of its power is from taking over the Myceneans for over 4 centuries. They were held captive and made Helots (slaves).
2. I thought it was interesting that the Spartans tended to attack people who were very similar to them! It makes me wonder if that meant that they didn't like characteristics about themselves, but didn't want to say it?

1. How Sparta would attack other city states like itself and try to justify their conquests by treating the conquered people as others and making them slaves.

2. I thought it was interesting that the Spartans would every year claim official war on the Mycenaeans.

1. Part of how Sparta got lots of his power was using public humiliation as apart of torturing their captured slaves.

2. I thought the most interesting fact was that you couldn't live with your wife when you first got married which over time helped to increase the birth rate to create healthy boys to serve in the army.

1. How there was a ratio 10:1 of Helots to Spartans. Those Helots used to be Mycenaeans whose land was conquered, so we can assume the Spartans conquered a LOT of land.

2. It was interesting how all the Spartans saw themselves as descendants of the great warrior Heracles.

1) Mycenaeans where Sparta's conquered people and they hated each other (Sparta and Mycenaeans) because they where so much alike.
2) I thought it was interesting that when a boy turned 7 he never returned back to his family and i think this is interesting because you don't get to grow up with "protection" of your family and your brought up in a very well-mannered way and everyone expect's you to have a high maturity level at such a young age.

1. Sparta got a lot of its power from the immigrants that moved there originally for its beauty but then were forced into slavery like helots.
2. I found it interesting that the helots didn't overthrow the Spartans. Really, this reminds me of the Pixar movie "A Bug's Life." The helots (ants)could have easily overthrown the spartans (Grasshoppers), but they never did because the spartans(grasshoppers) struck fear into their hearts. They did so because they knew if the helots (ants) rebelled, that the spartans (grasshoppers) would get beaten easily. The ants in "A Bugs Life" realized this and got rid of the grasshoppers but the helots didnt and kept getting killed despite favorable odds.
