The Qur'an is interesting because it has Jesus's name mentioned 93 times in it. It literally means to recite and I think its cool that its meant to be read aloud.

Byzantine - Greek Fire - Greek fire was the Byzantine navy’s strongest weapon. It was a flammable liquid that was sprayed over enemy ships or hurled at them. What I find most interesting about Greek Fire is that it could burn on water so it was an effective weapon at sea.

Islam - women’s rights under the Qur’an - The Qur’an extended more rights to women than they received under traditional Arab law. What I find most interesting about women’s rights under the Qur’an is that the Muslim women enjoyed freedoms that were not available to most women of that time.

I found the Five Pillars of Islam the most interesting. I always love learning about eastern religions and different ways of life.

My favorite thing we've learned in this unit is about Theodora. I think it was so cool the initiative she took to help boost women in her country and how without her the empire probably wouldn't have thrived so much.

I found how Islams pray five times a day the most interesting because it really shows their dedication to their religion and what they will do to please Allah

I think the coolest part of the Islamic civilization is that they practice the belief of polygamy. Polygamy is such an interesting belief to me because I don't know why someone would even want to marry more than one person. Personally, I wouldn't be able to keep up with all of my wives if I had more than one! I also find the belief interesting because in order to have two to four wives you need to treat them each equally.

Byzantine art had a very distinctive look. Figures of the paintings were portrayed with an abundance of color, a certain stiffness, & large eyes, and the backgrounds were usually a golden color. I found it really interesting how the art was heavily influenced by religion and that it was used to teach moral lessons.

I personally believe that the most interesting aspect of Islam is how many misconceptions there are about the culture. So may people believe things like "Islam supresses women", or "The moon is a symbol of Islam" and all of these are not true. It's weird how a lot of people can have these ideas that are completely based on fiction.

My favorite topic from the unit was Justinian. He was the ruler for a long time, and although he did some good things, I believe that he was a bad ruler. Despite me believing he was bad, he was still my favorite part because I like controversial-type stuff and deciding on if something is good or not good. He lead the Byzantine people only in name, the real ruler was Theodora.

What I found interesting in Islam was Muhammad, and how he didn't want himself to be pictured or depicted. He only called himself a prophet, and not a son of god or divine.

I think that Constantinople was an interesting topic to learn about. It was cool how its location was perfect for trading between Asia and Europe and I think that that must have helped the Byzantines very well economically. It is kind of like how Sicily was so important to control with Rome.

What i found most interesting about Islam was giving Zakat because its a very peaceful and charitable way to live. They would directly have to give a homeless person, or a person in need money.

I think that the most interesting thing about this unit was that Mecca went from being a small gathering place for praying at the Ka'bah to a large city that revolves around it, and that over a million people travel to each year.

I think that the geography of the area in which we studied the Muslim faith was pretty cool. I have never been to a dessert area and that is a biome that i have always wanted to visit

What I found interesting was how the Qur'an includes concepts from the Bible and the Torah. I never thought that Islam was so close to Christianity and Judaism!

I think the main reason Ivan III Was terrible is because he killed his son, his sons wife, and his sons wife's baby.

I found it cool that the way Mohammad experienced his vision, was very similar to the way most of the other old testament Prophets experienced their visions.
