My historical best friend would have to be Gregory VII because of the result of him bringing the church more power, he then appoint his own bishops to instead of Henry IV which ended with excommunication of Henry IV

Henry V was a "Holy Roman Emperor" between 1086-1125. Henry V is my historical BFF for several reasons. Henry V finally addressed the issue of church vs. monarchal power. He signed the Concordat of Worms. He agreed to grant lands and secular powers to church officials. These church officials could then elect bishops.

My historical best friend would be Henry V because he was a decent Holy Roman Emperor. He signed an agreement, known as the Concordat of Worms-City, between him, church officials, and nobles to try and right the wrongs of those before him. He agreed to give power to the church by having only church officials elect the bishops. He also agreed to give only land grants and secular power to church officials.

My Monarchical best friend is Clovis because he was the first king of the Franks and he ruled between 481-511. He is my BFF because he has had many accomplishments during his rule. First, he was brutal and cruel, so no one would go at it with him. Second, when he turned christian, his 3,000 soldiers became christian. And lastly, he controlled all of northern Gaul, and then the rest of Gaul (France).

My historical best friend is Henry IV because...

He would be my historical BFF because:

My historical BFF is King John I. He's my BFF because he was trying to be a step ahead of others by not fighting the church but get on its good side. King John I must have been loaded because was able to pay a huge tax to the Pope. Lastly, because I think he is overall smart because of his decision. It may not have worked to well, but it was creative thinking.

My historical best friend is Pope Innocent III because he was given the title of one of the best popes of all time. The name was given to him for a reason, he held much power, and could basically be recognized as both a king and a pope. He also was very smart when it came to controlling people of the church, using excommunication and interdiction in very powerful ways. Even though he wasn't the nicest pope to have been, he was definitely one of the most powerful.

My historical best friend is Otto I, one reason being his title Otto the Great! Elected by the great feudal lords in 936, Otto I was a forceful and powerful ruler who had the ability to have as strong a kingdom as any other king. However, he was too focused on Italy. Where most people see his interest in seizing Italian lands a negative, I find his determination and confidence in being able to take parts of northern Italy very admirable, despite how minor or major the success may have been. He had a motivation and he seized the opportunity. Also, Pope John XII begged for Otto's help when he was struggling with the Roman noble. This not only shows the pope's vulnerability at this time, but it shows how important and valuable Otto was and how much he was needed by the pope and his people. He was even crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 962 by the pope for his efforts. In recap, Otto I is my historical best friend for his important titles acclaiming his authority (Otto the Great and Holy Roman Emperor), the forceful authority he had that gave him a lot of potential, his determination and confidence as well as focus when seizing northern Italy, and his importance and value to the pope when his help was needed.

My historical BFF is Phillip the Fair/Hottie. This is because, like me, he has luscious hair. Also this guy had two daughters in law who committed adultery and gave it a fancy title Tour de Nesle Affair. Not only was the fancy name given, but also the others in the crime were tortured, and then murdered. I'd love having this guy with me. He seems likely to bring a knife to a gun fight, and still win. Many casualties may occur however like slight changes to our facial appearances. Oh, did I mention we are incredibly modest. we'd probably win a contest of modesty.

My historical best friend would have to be Henry the III because of the vast power he possessed during the middle ages as a monarch, something that was so difficult to for monarchs of the Middle Ages. Not only did he have this power, but he had more power than the Church during his reign. He considered the Church to be part of the government AND he elected 3 new popes during his reign which are also key examples of his power during the Middle Ages. And because of all this, Henry III was able to lift the "Holy Roman Empire" to its peak.
